Art Journal — Frida and a Crazy Dress

5 Flares Filament.io 5 Flares ×

There are two new challenges up this month at Art-Journal-Journey(Frida Khalo) and Mix-It-Monthly(Crazy Dresses).  In my limited art time these days I combined them both.  Art Journal as process and non-thinking just doing kind of way I created this dress out of fragmented food images and the Frida photo which I altered was actually a childhood photo.  Nothing in the perspective is quite right which seems to suit the physically debilitated Frida and the chaos of the dress represents the chaos in all our lives(and that serpent of transformation moving inside us, mine especially lately….where is my head at? Frida for me was also so powerful and a keeper of memory, although not always happy ones, hence the words.

A bit of art heals therapy for me tonight.

And yes I did forget a whole roll of bubble wrap that was tucked in the underneath of the shopping cart!  Picture the duh! as I hit my forehead.

  1. Two for one, good thinking. The dress is so clever. My memory “has left the building.” To much going on this summer.

  2. Frida is showing up at all my favorite sites this week, and I really LOVE your interpretation. I was impressed by how you used the analogy of Frida’s physical disabilities to match the Frida in your art. This is a powerful piece, and since it’s a two-fer, even better!

  3. This is probably my favorite piece done by you EVER! She is a powerhouse of energy and emotion, the result of your non thinking self! Love!

  4. Fantastic Frida artwork! Just wonderful! Makes me speechless. Hugs, Valerie

  11. Dear Corrine,
Frida surely wore her pain and deprivation on her outside, in form of her fantastic art- and showing it like this , gives her wonderful credit, also the colours she would have loved !!!
    Gorgeous !!
Sorry I`m away, a lot ,– on top of the guest part in my life,- my mother desited to stop eating, and wants to dye !! Now on second week- I can only be there and wait, and hope for her it will be painless !!

  12. OOooo! That sounds like me leaving something under the cart….since i know i do that…when i check out i try to transfer everthing thats underneath and put it on top…somehow how it usually all fits…lol Love her dress Corrine and her expression looks like she could have just hit her head and said ‘duh’.. 🙂 Hugs! deb

  13. Frida looks a bit tense here, even although she has a very unusual new dress. The picture makes me smile for some reason. I think your art is so unique and expressive, always with something different to say.

  14. You did great with this Corrine, the fiery colours and Frida’s posture, as well as her facial expression fit perfectly with Frida. Her dress fits her character so well too. Such an interesting piece, it definitely has Frida energy running through it!

  15. It’s very cool how you combined the two challenges, and I think you did an excellent job. The dress is perfect (although I hate snakes!) I love your art!!
