The Superhero and I just returned from visiting close friends in Ojo Caliente, NM.  We had a marvelous trip  spending time with out friends and seeing the sights in Taos and Santa Fe, but my first tidbit takes place at the Tesuque Flea Market where we got a chance to meet one of my favorite artists Kelly Moore.  I wanted to meet him after we brought “dark bird sign” into our home.  You can read the story of the Dark Bird Palace on his website.

IMG_2606Kelly’s Dark Bird Palace is where he paints and it is a fantastic, mystical trip to the cosmos and beyond with many a dark bird to lead the way.  He was most gracious and funny and philosophical about what he paints, why he paints and energetics in the universe.  By the time we left, two more paintings were coming home with us which I will share when they arrive.

Here is a fun shot of Kelly in front of a painting in progress with the Superhero and me.

The desert certainly inspired me to think about expanses of sky in a different way.  The view from our friends front porch, perched on a hillside up against a mesa was more than awe-inspiring and the sunsets were spectacular.

After meeting Kelly, we ventured into Santa Fe to meet his partner Kat Livengood and see the winter studio.  Kat is a marvelous photographer and captures the energy of the wild mustangs.  The Superhero was moved by a photo called Ghost Mustangs…which you can see here .  I loved another called God’s Filling Station which you can see here.  The idea of being fueled by the ultimate spirit is a soulful one to say the least. And her donkey Good Heart made my heart melt. And finally the handsome Romeo in the photo called Waiting….

Quite the visit to two wonderful artists made the holiday all the more special.  More to come…

  14. Beautiful pics – makes me miss the southwest a bit. We lived in AZ for a couple years with similar views and dynamite sunsets. Though so VERY different from the NW, we grew to love the spare landscape, the dramatic light and the consistently sunny days (as I look out at rain today!). Browsed those horse photos and OMG, they are stunning. Amazing work! Thanks so much for sharing.
