Do You Ever Have Those Nights…???

Do you ever have those nights when no matter how you try, your body just refuses to sleep.  You toss, you turn, you flip, you flop and you lay there thinking what bloody time is it and can I get up and if I do will I get back to sleep later?  Well….last night I had one of those nights.  A combination of what I ate and a late afternoon coffee probably, but….I was a rolling in the dark.  So I did get up and sneak past snoring dogs to the studio and blew my frustration out.  Sometimes the dark angel needs to fly…

  1. WOW – this is so powerful. There is so much energy radiating out of this figure. And I love the assymetrical wings, the paper underneath, the bold strokes — WOW!

  2. I hope liberating her lets you sleep well tonight. It’s a rare night when I am able to sleep all night. Part of aging i guess-i toss and turn and read and sleep a short time then repeat, repeat–kind of like the movie Groundhog day!

  3. Oh yes indeed, I have been known as the night wanderer in my house. Usually I will try to read a little and try again, something that does not spark any thought processes or my brain will be buzzing even more. Did you get to sleep after you made the dark angel?

  4. Been there, done that, Corrine! And, like you, I generally resign myself to the fact that I am not going to sleep and might as well get up and do something. I am pretty much *not* a bedtime reader, so like you, I head for the studio. Oftentimes, the reason that I am not sleeping is that I am creating in my head! This powerful piece that you created last night is amazing on all levels! It would have been worth not sleeping for me! I love the asymmetrical wings, the flip and the flop, if you will! But your title is off the charts. I love that term “the dark angel!” And, indeed, she is. She comes in the dark, but is a good angel and takes you to an outlet other than sleep.

  5. oh you are a brave soul to get out of bed and fully wake up …. when I can’t sleep, I think about my kids and all the things I worry about and I give it to God. Slowly I relax again and go back to sleep without even knowing how or when ……

  6. This is almost worth having a sleepless night to create! But even better had you just dreamed about it and gotten up from a refreshing dream, gone directly to your studio and made it then. Maybe. Anyway, it is truly fabulous. I merely read when i can’t sleep.

  7. WOW…you really must’ve been wide awake. Nothing can stop me sleeping, if I’m not ‘doing’ I’m sleeping.

  8. Ooh bless you Corinne, I can truly sympathise with nights like those, worst was a period of about 6 months ten yrs ago, luckily for me it’s been a while!!!! A stunning emotional piece of work, I love her and think she ‘says’ it all!! Thank-you for your very sweet visit too.
    Hugs x

  9. Such amazing colours to master in the middle of the night, Corrine- gorgeous!and a true feeling of how you felt!
Me I`m just turning and tossing on- never standing up! and eventually alwayes falling asleep- I know it would be more relevant to get out of bed and do something!!!!

  10. Love your angel Corrine! I’d love to see this as a journal cover, or a sub -section of a journal. I mean one meant for the consumer market/retail. The angel itself and that title. WOW. It would get folk going. Hope you have a better sleep tonight. I have those nights too. I just lay there and hope that the resting of the body itself will be helpful. This is if I have to do something the next day (dentist appointment)…but if I have the luxury of not having to actually DO anything the next day, then I will venture up and have a cup of tea, listen to the birds, light a candle, meditate. I’ve never jumped up and created fabulous art like this…maybe I will try it! Love this work, N, xo

  11. That is horrid, not being able to sleep. Like the creative outcome!

  12. lyle baxter says:

fantastic piece! what sleep deprivation does for you! I, too, have those nights but never can decide what to do ! think pleasant thoughts???#$%^&*( not really!

  13. I can just see the energy here, Corrine. I am lucky enough to sleep like a log (what does that mean anyway? Do logs sleep?) I glad something good, like your art piece, came out of your sleepless night. I hope you sleep better tonight.

  14. I hope your awesome dark angel helped you get back to sleep. Occasionally these kinds of nights happen and I struggle as to what to do with the time I am awake when I should be sleeping. I do think about creating something but am afraid once I begin – there will be no going back.

Thoughts of you and hoping you will get a peaceful night’s rest tonight. xxoo

  15. Your frustration shows in every stroke! I often can’t sleep and my fall back is to read or to spend computer time. Actually painting would get me too involved and awake I think. A little glass of wine helps too! :) Can’t believe Jo is the only one who has no trouble sleeping – I swear the older I get the less I sleep…..just like my mom (oh no!)

  16. Zing- check out that flying hair! The shadows of a sleepless night there…some of the best creative sessions I have come when they are least convenient- like messing up my next day because of lack of sleep…

  17. I never give up trying to sleep, I refuse, and if I get up I will be up forever, this mind never stops. Knowing I have to get up at 6 for work is also a great motivator to try to sleep!
Your artwork here really looks like such a release, spewing energy out into the universe!

  18. Your dark angel looks like she could be of help on a sleepless night. I usually read, though I did paint a cat once…it was my own cat…and he was the reason I could not sleep. Stay away from coffee after 12pm. But I’m one to talk…I love iced mochas in the afternoon.

  19. Oh yeah, the toss and turns happen to us all at sometime. Good to get up and create as you did, your creative dark angel! Sleep better tonight!xx

  20. Maria McGuire says:

and apparently AWESOME projects come out of not sleeping :)

  21. Yep, those Dark Angels sometimes won’t be quiet until they get their message out !

  22. I hear ya, girl. I do love getting up for those moments. My only concern is my studio is directly below our bedroom so I need to reign it in a bit if it’s 3am!

  23. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since I returned from FL. Partly because hubby is still there til the end of the month and partly because I have SO much to do. When I can’t sleep, I don’t fight it. I was an insomniac in my 30s and 40s and would get up and clean house or prepare lessons for the kids or research. Or sew. Back in those days I didn’t get much art done because home schooling took a lot of time. Now…I do the same. I get up until I can’t stay awake another minute and then usually fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Then, I force myself to get up early in hopes that I’ll be so tired the next night…I can’t help but sleep. My son, unfortunately, is not sleeping well in Afghanistan. He doesn’t have the luxury to get up and do stuff…so I always thank my lucky stars and use the window of opportunity.

  24. Oh! I meant to say that I DO love your dark angel. Deep down inside she’s really a good girl.

  25. I have many of those nights lately….too bad I don’t get up and draw! ha! I just lay there with my ipod. :0)

  26. Ah yes, those tossing and turning nights. Lately I have just been telling my mind to stop thinking and for some reason it’s been working. Usually when I have one of those nights my mind is racing. They are happening less often since I learned to turn my mind to OFF! ha!
