Keeping it Simple — Project #1 2013 A Bit of Gelli Madness

553 Flares 553 Flares ×

Decluttering some business files from 1998 – yes you read that correctly – 1998 – left a stack of discarded file folders that were pretty ratty.  As I was contemplating what to do with them, the gelli plate popped into the corner of my eye.  With a whole stack of stencils, rubber stamps, fingers making marks in the acrylic paint, I was able to gelli up those folders and turn them into something viable again.   As I saw all the colorful results it occurred to me that maybe a folder journal would be in the making. There are so many layers of paint on these that they stand up by themselves….wooha.

The gelli is a great way to snazzy up any old thing and give it new life.  Hop on over to Carolyn Dube’s  A Colorful Gelli  Print Party and see what everyone else is doing…..IMG_5447 IMG_5459 IMG_5453 IMG_5443 IMG_5445 IMG_5446

  1. That is such a good idea! As a retired first grade teacher I threw many of those away.
Now add a label and you are ready to go!

  2. Oh Oh Oh OHHHHH! This is such a genius idea! I might actually be excited to do paper work and filing if I had folders like this! What a great gift idea too! What a fun way to bring painting and color to usually drab places! I may have to call the fire department because all the sparks that are flying here might turn into a bonfire!!!

  3. These are stunning . What a great way to recycle old folders — I think a gelli journal sounds like a great idea!

  4. Wow — those are making me have the urge to file something!!!

  5. Wow! Those are really beautiful! I could see you making tags with that nice weight of paper, too.

  6. What a great idea! Now I know why I was saving all those old folders! 😀 😀

  7. OK…now I guess I’ll have to go organize that dang file cabinet.

  8. Oh boy.. what fun… the recycle queen has struck again. LOVE!!!!

  9. Great fun and enough to brighten any day!

  10. Totally yummy! Santa did NOT bring me a gelli this year so I’ll have to keep it on my wish list a while longer……seeing what you and Carolyn are able to accomplish certainly gives my pocketbook a tug! Love the layers and layers and layers of colors!

Happy and healthy New Year to you and yours Corrine. Wishing you the best life has to offer!

Love your creations, here, so alive with color and patterns. I have yet to play with my gelli plate.

    Love, Marilyn

  12. always fun to stop in and see what you are up to…it is like sliding down a rainbow and becoming drenched in color.

  13. I love revamping the old manila folders….I have one more student today at 1 pm than I can get back to my reorganization of supplies and employ my storage storage bays. It is a never ending exercise…but I am sure it will be worth it. have a safe and warm day in your sparkle and shine. Peace, Mary helen fernandez Stewart

  14. What a FABULOUS idea! Love them!!!!!

  15. I often recycle file folders as stencils but I never paint them. Brilliant idea and I really love your color choices. Very pretty.

  16. These will make great presents for my ‘non-artistic’ friends. Thank you!

  17. It looks like you had a lot of fun. Great project!

  18. I’m loving your colors, and this cool project idea!

  19. Those are great! Good spicing up! I totally want a Gelli plate. It’s on my wishlist.
    Happy New Year!

  20. OK, this has my heart beating faster. I can’t use a gelli plate, but I have some gelatin I might just use, since I’m in need of backgrounds for my calendar pages I’m making out of file folders. I stopped by to wish you a happy new year, and ended up getting bit by the gelatin bug (grin). THANK YOU!!!

  21. I don’t think I even know what this is yet, but I do know that playing with colors on surfaces that seemed to be goners is one of the biggest pleasures of the studio! I love making old things new again!

  22. Love the colors that give life to those old folders. Way to recyle! I’ve made a journal from manilla folders and all I need to do is put it to the Gelli Plate !

  23. fabulous prints!
