Old Ironsides and Some Boston Harbor Views

The superhero won us a harbor cruise at a United Way auction sponsered by one of the Boston architectural firms we work with and yesterday’s perfect 80F weather turned out to be the most perfect day.  The USS Constitution(known as Old Ironsides) was out for a tug supported cruise round the harbor to commenorate the War of 1812 and we got to see her sail right by our ship.  You can read more about her here… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constitution

We were also sitting in the water with quite a number of boats of all kinds who had come to see her brief cruise and gun salute.  The photos I took also include Castle Island – filled with onlookers and some other good size sailboats that were out in the water with us, as well as some views of the Boston skyline and the Rose Kennedy Greenway gardens and scupltures.  Hope you enjoy this brief glimpse into history on a summer Monday.

  1. Awesome photos! I would love to visit there someday! It looks beautiful!

  2. Great tour via photos! I love the way boats look on water. I bought a treasured photograph from Maine years ago…foggy wonderful Maine.

We should have asked your super hero to play our lottery ticket for us last week. The Kansas Lottery was up to some ridiculous 750 gagillion or whatever. I don’t play lotteries usually, but I did put in my 10 bucks at work. I wasn’t about to be the only one that showed up to work the next day.

  3. Corrine, I love the photos! My dad grew up in “Southie” and I spent many a weekend tromping around Castle Island. :-) I’m glad you got enjoy such a nice day!

  4. How lucky you are!!! Wanna hear something funny?? Old Ironsides and its occassional tug supported cruises was in an adventure story i finished not too long ago! Ofcourse in those adventure/history books you never really know what is truth and what is fiction so you have to take everything with a grain of salt so its nice to see that Old Ironsides does take a cruise now and then. Thanks for sharing! Hugs! deb

  5. Seems you had a wonderful day, boating and watching all kind of other beautiful boats, buildings and “gardens”
