More Bits and Pieces and a Collage of a Different Sort

David and I spent this weekend
moving stones and spreading sand, turning
our pocket patio into an outdoor room.

Since everything in our world is downhill,
nothing is square and the spirits in the garden
rearrange things at night; we thought we
should create a collage of stones that mirrored
our world.

A hunk of granite and some smaller stones carve into
the patio to create a step toward the porch over the
gully where the water runs as it cascades down the
hill during storms.

More irregular stones anchor the corners and create a mixed media
palette right on the ground.

A pocket garden of astilbe, euonymus and a hosta sit in the dappled
shade.

Plants from the house and
the fountain…

The pocket garden embellished…

A Japanese maple with
the owl to keep it company, notice the
large heart rock tucked in the back….

My helper Rusty
who didn’t help at all….
but a nap on the warm stones
was fun.

Bits and pieces from the other side….

Now for a very very large glass of chardonnay!!!

Cheers to that! Looks like you guys were working hard, but the fruits of your labors are really a lovely 'collaged' patio! I love the mixed materials, and the flowing of design. Well done! xo K

  6. I also work very hard and put many hours into my zen gardens so I know what a feeling of accomplishment you have– beautiful stone work!
