Get thee to the Garden, Berkeley on My Mind

The plant spirits called today
and since the weather cooperated
nicely, I spent the day moving plants
into new homes.

Plants that were crowded and
noisily clacking at their neighbors
pushing and shoving for more room.

Roots tangled and cranky needed
freeing and a place to expand and
spread.

This European ginger girl with
her glossy heart shaped leaves
fractured into four and now has room
to move more emerald green
throughout the beds.

The guardian owl showed her shadow
cross the blue tinted boulder
(which you can’t see in the sun)
and acted like a sundial while
the bleeding heart began it’s climb
to the sky.

The same kind of weather greeted me the day
I spent touring Berkeley, CA.  The UC Berkeley
Art museum beckoned with two fabulous exhibits.
William T Wiley and James Castle.
Painting, collage, assemblage, sheer delight.

The building itself
all sharp angles, steel
and concrete was stark
with the sun glinting on it’s
surfaces.

The sculpture garden just outside
the museum was filled with more
steel, these huge poplar trees and some
olive and japanese maple trees as well.

A surprise I did not expect
but which I found at the courtyard
surrounding the clock tower
was this distant view out of the
golden gate bridge and the city
by the bay, San Francisco.

Since I spent the day
outside in the garden today
I thought I would share some
art created by the Berkeley
students on a hidden picnic
table in the redwoods.
Quite wonderful don’t you
think?

Tomorrow I shall return to the studio
unless the spirits beckon me again?

  1. Love your owl, my BH is out too, must take a pic, also the golden gate shot – isn't it great we can all do a walkabout & share these wonderful places we live in? Cool grafiti, I spent ages in my youth trying to draw the perfect Suzuki 'S'.

I'm off to the greenhouse – it's not sunny therefore not too hot in there. I WILL sew a seed today!

Not heard of the Palmer method of learning left, I just know my parents made sure I wasn't forced to be a righty 🙂

  2. Wonderful owl and stunning pictures once again Corrine…..i spotted a bleeding heart in your garden, mine is in flower too xx

  3. La Dolce Vita says:
